I undertake commissions both for portrait paintings and for portrait sculpture. Whether painted or sculpted, portraits usually involve a series of sittings in person, at my studio in West Cumbria. Occasionally I have made portrait busts based on photographs, when working from life was impossible (e.g. Wittgenstein, Douglas Clark, Ebenezer Howard).
A price will be agreed before commencing and a deposit of 30% made when work begins. The rest of the fee will be paid in two instalments. For sculpture, the second instalment is paid on acceptance of the clay sculpture prior to casting, and the third on delivery of the finished work (in bronze, resin or plaster). For portrait paintings, the second instalment is paid on completion of the painting and the final instalment on delivery of the framed work.
My studio is located not far from the Solway coast of Cumbria, and within easy reach of the unspoilt western Lake District. If you are interested in commissioning a portrait but Cumbria sounds too far away, why not combine it with a short break to the Lake District? There is a very pleasant holiday cottage round the corner: Hill View, Little Clifton. Alternatively, I can come to you – please contact me to discuss options and costs.
